Our Approach to Care
Dr. Shipley is certified in pediatrics by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) to provide the safest, gentlest and most effective care for kids. Pediatric adjustments work on the same principle as adult adjustments, but with very light pressure and no twisting. With babies, it’s just a light touch with a fingertip.
Some children can be nervous about being adjusted, and we understand that and will work with them. Dr. Shipley demonstrates the adjustment on a baby doll, and we have lots of toys for kids to play with to help them relax.
She takes her time to build rapport with the child, explain how adjustments work, and let them share why they’re scared. Usually, kids decide they want to try it, and most end up loving adjustments. But we won’t force your child if they are too nervous. We’ll wait another day and try again.
Knowledge Is Power
Dr. Shipley works to educate kids and their parents about the best way to use electronic devices. Most kids put the device in their lap and look down at it, putting tremendous strain on the neck and damaging posture. Holding the device up in front of your face helps maintain proper posture and alleviates neck strain.
